A few words
About Us
Our Story and Mission
An Open Letter To All Our Sistas. Actually a brutally honest observation:
Sistas, have you ever noticed how most men (who are not acquainted), greet each other initially, as opposed to women, particularly Sistas? Pay close attention, or even ask a few men how they greet each other for the first time…we did!
- As Sistas, most, if not all of us have at some time in our lives experienced “that look” from another Sista. Just passing by her on the street, on the job, at a social gathering, in church, any and everywhere.
- Honestly, do we have to break it down? You know the “look”! A quick serious glance, pretending not to see you. As if to say, “Don’t bother me, I don’t care, you think you’re ‘all that’, look at your hair, dress, shoes, skin, the man you’re with”. “You think you’re hot but you look more like a hot mess… stay away”. Or, “I must admit you look good but I’ll never tell you that or compliment you”. Or, “How did you get THAT man”.
- We make split-second assessments of each other. Usually to criticize. An inherent combative attitude.
- We’re always in critique-mode (CM). Let’s change that to support-mode (SM).
The Mission of Greet A Sista:
- Let us encourage, support, protect, uplift, inspire, and teach each other.
- No more “Side Eye”, “Crab in a Bucket” attitude. No look of envy or criticism.
- In passing, try to give just a nod, a smile, a wave, even a compliment.
- We’ve shared common experiences/emotions. We may have been mistreated, down trodden, abused, criticized, teased, ridiculed.
- But we are strong and we rise. We always find a way. We can make something out of nothing.
- Let us carry ourselves like the queens we really are. Regal princesses. Elevate each other. In so doing we elevate ourselves.
- Let’s share/spread/experience, this positive vibe with our Sistas in every corner of the globe, and watch great things happen!
- Let our lights shine. Let’s share our spicy, hot, strong, fierce, vibrant, creative, loving, intuitive, smart, beautiful vibes.
